Aaron Mooy (Huddersfield Town)
The Australian has been a revelation for Huddersfield ever since he signed permanently from Manchester City for a club record fee of around £10m. Mooy created 2 goals on his debut against Crystal Palace. He followed it up by netting his first goal for the club in a 1-0 win over Newcastle. They take on Southampton at home in their last game before the international weekend, and Aaron Mooy will be hoping he can help Huddersfield town continue to enjoy their stint at the top of the table with the big boys for another couple of weeks at least.
Anthony Martial (Manchester United)
The French winger has scored 2, and assisted a further 2 goals in 30 odd minutes of football this season. He has looked very dangerous, and it looks like he’s feeling good about himself and his surroundings again. While he would have considered himself unlucky to miss out on the starting 11 last weekend, it would be a travesty if he still can’t break into the team as United host Leicester in the late game on Saturday. Juan Mata, for all his class, will probably be the one to miss out. Rashford and Martial on either flank, with Mkhitaryan behind Lukaku seems like a pretty deadly combination.
Roberto Firmino (Liverpool)
Jurgen Klopp called him one of the most underrated players in the English league. His performance in the midweek fixture against Hoffenheim was worthy of such praise. Firmino scored one, created another, and was generally an absolute pain for the Hoffenheim defence. His quality enables Mo Salah, and Sadio Mane to use their pace, stretch defences, and wreck havoc. Against an Arsenal defence that isn’t looking at it’s best currently, we should expect more of the same.
Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal)
Alexis Sanchez is back in training, Wenger says he’s happy, and ready to be unleashed. The Chilean’s importance cannot be understated to this Arsenal team. In purely footballing terms, Arsenal should be okay with holding on to him for another season, and let him go for nothing next year, rather than have him leave this summer. Obviously, the economics behind that would present an entirely different argument. Coming to the point, Sanchez doesn’t seem like the type of player who’s performance will get affected by a saga like this. In fact, he looks like the type who would be motivated to show everyone just how good he is on the back of this. Liverpool on Sunday would be a good place to start.
Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur)
The August drought is real, the curse of Wembley is real. Harry Kane has never scored a premier league goal in August, Spurs are yet to win a home match at the new Wembley. Kane has one match to break this trend before he loses the chance to do so for another year, while Tottenham would love to go into the international break with this monkey off their back. They play Burnley on Sunday, and we suspect they have enough to come out victorious. Will Harry Kane break his August drought though? Don’t bet on it.
