6 of the Funniest Instances of Sledging on the Cricket Field (Ft. Sehwag, Sunny Gavaskar, Shane Warne)

Daryl Cullinan & Shane Warne

South African batsman Daryl Cullinan had a tough time facing Shane Warne throughout his career. During a South Africa vs Australia series that was being played after a gap of 2 years, Warne couldn’t resist taunting Cuillinan and remarked, “I’ve been waiting two years for another chance at you.” While Cullinan was a bit of a bunny to Warne’s bowling, he was able to match the Aussie verbally by replying, “Looks like you’ve spent it eating…”

Viv Richards & Greg Thomas

During an English County match, Welsh bowler Thomas was getting a few to fly past Richard’s bat. After Viv played and missed another ball, Thomas said, “It’s red, it’s round, now f*****g hit it!” This obviously got to the West Indian great who went on to smash the following ball out of the stadium. He turned to Thomas after this and taunted, “You know what it looks like, now go and get it.”

Sunil Gavaskar and Viv Richards

During a test match between India and West Indies, Sunny Gavaskar decided to drop down to no.4 from his usual opening position. Malcom Marshall went on to then dismiss Gaekwad and Vengsarkar with the score till at 0. When Gavaskar came out to bat, Viv Richards said, “Man it don’t matter where you come in, the score is still zero.”

Virender Sehwag and Michael Clarke

During India’s tour of Australia in 2004, Indian great Sachin Tendulkar was being constantly sledged by a young Michael Clarke. Sachin, being Sachin, chose not to respond to Clarke. This didn’t stop Clarke, which prompted Sehwag to ask Clarke, “What’s your age?”, to which Clarke replied, “23”, to which Viru’s retort was, “Do you know he (Tendulkar) has more 100s in tests and in ODIs than your age? Try someone your own age.” Clarke being Australian, still kept at it, which made Sehwag go for the kill by asking him, “Your friends call you ‘pup’ right?”, Clarke replied, “yeah, mate.” Sehwag finished the matter by asking Clarke, “Which breed?”, which left Clarke speechless. This small exchange even brought a laugh out of the little master, Sachin.

Ian Healey and Arjuna Ranatunga

During a one day international game between Australia and Sri Lanka, Ranatunga decided be needed a runner. The stump microphone picked up Healey exclaiming, “You don’t get a runner for being an overweight, fat c**t.”

Ravi Shastri & Mike Whitney

Mike Whitney was on the field as a sub fielder when Shastri was at the crease. Shastri hit the ball to Whitney and considers taking a single. Whitney throws the ball in and says: “Stay in your crease or I’ll break your f*****g head.” Shastri replied, “If you could bowl as well as you talk you wouldn’t be the f*****G 12th man!”
